Most people who dream of seeing their ancestral village will never board that plane — age, health, war, life. The Virtual Homecoming exists for them. We go in your place, and we bring the village back to you.
What you receive
- The village, filmed street by street — including your family's house, or the place where it stood
- The church where your family was baptised and married, inside and out
- The cemetery: the family grave found, cleaned and tidied
- Flowers laid at the grave in your name, on camera
- Conversations with the oldest residents — do they remember your family? What do they remember?
- A visit to the village council and, where they exist, introductions to living relatives
- A 20–30 minute documentary film, professionally edited, subtitled in your language
- The full unedited footage, yours to keep
- A written summary of everything and everyone we found
- An envelope of earth from the family yard, posted to your door
What this is like to watch
A first example film will be published here as soon as its family gives final consent — we show real families only, with permission, or nothing. Until then: imagine a steady, unhurried half hour. A dirt road. A gate. An old woman who narrows her eyes at the family name, then nods and starts to talk.
No music pushing your feelings around. No presenter. Just your village, on the day we were there, with the people who still remember.
Price: from $1,200 — and what moves it
- Whether the village is already identified, or has to be found first
- One filming day, or several — some villages are an hour apart, some a day
- Whether a grave has to be searched for, cleared and restored before filming
- Whether we also look for living relatives on the ground
Most films land between $1,200 and $3,500 depending on the factors above. You receive a fixed written quote for your case after the free assessment — no meter, no surprises. Half is paid on commissioning, half when the film is delivered.
